1 very fine old WW2 Japanese Samurai Army Colonel Officer’s sword available. The blade looks to be from the Shinto Period (~1596-1780 A.D.). This very fine Japanese Army Colonel’s sword would make an important addition to any collection.
The mounts are early–from approx. 1934 to 1939. Note the early elongated kashira, the oversized pierced tsuba, and the raised cherry blossom scabbard release button.
The nakago/tang is mumei/unsigned. The signature was likely cut off when the sword was shortened. The kashira has a fine red-patinaed sarute, and an exceptional condition Colonel’s (Field grade) tassel.
The blade measures 26 1/8″/66.4 cm (as measured properly with a tape pulled tight from the blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the habaki).
This sword has a handsome and hard-to-find hamon, which is best described as ‘horse’s tooth‘.
Note the fuchi has a silver Samurai family clan mon.
