Kurihara Akihide was known for many things:

–He was known as the man who saved the Japanese sword

–The 1942 Rankings: He published Seidai Tōshō Iretsu Ichiran (聖代刀匠位列一覧), establishing a formal wartime ranking system for roughly 300 contemporary swordsmiths across seven distinct merit tiers.

–Nippon To Denshujo: Akihide founded this dedicated sword-forging institute in Tokyo to preserve and teach authentic, traditional tamahagane steel-folding and forging techniques rather than relying on wartime mass-production shortcuts.

This fine gendaito is signed and dated. This sword’s nagasa is 23 5/8″ (60 cm).

CONDITION:

This Kurihara Akihide WWII sword is in exceptional condition. The Army mounts are perfect. The blade is in excellent polish.
