Description

A fine signed antique early Edo period Japanese Samurai tsuba available.  This handsome iron tsuba is adorned with shakudo plum blossoms with shakudo and gold.  This antique tsuba would make a fine addition to any collection.

This tsuba is signed Aizu-Sumi Shoami.  This smith worked from the late Muromachi period into the early Edo period.

This boxed tsuba is accompanied by papers from the Osaka group, Nihon Tousougu Kenkyukai.  The papers are dated October 8, 2025.

This tsuba measures 82mm x 82mm.  The tsuba measures 5mm thick.  The seppadai measure 4mm.

 

In addition to the smith name, time period worked, and measurements, the paper reads:

‘Shoami was born in the capitol during the Muromachi Period, originally working as an unsigned tsuba craftsman, upon entering the Edo Period, he moved to various places and many examples are seen of him signing the place names on his works, achieving success in each area.

This work utilizes well forged steel, with a finish adorned with shakudo on plumflower trees and foliage in a gold fabric-pattern inlay.  Signed tsuba.’
