This knife has one Rockwell test mark on one side of the blade. The other side of the blade has three Rockwell test marks. As mentioned in Silvey’s letter, the rubber o-ring was deteriorated. In the 16 years since Mike’s letter, the rubber o-ring deteriorated further to the point of it coming off completely. They always were just a rubber o-ring anyway, so most collectors just go to their hardware store to get one to replace it.

The rare WW2 scabbard smells just like the items in my grandpa’s WW2 foot locker. The leg tie-down thongs has minor crazing. Note that there is a narrow rub mark above the scabbard throat where a V-42’s guard rubbed against the leather.
Note the characteristic rolled seam on the back side of the sheath at the top just under a vet signature.
The V42 knife was used by the First Special Service Force. Frank Trzaska notes in his article “The Case V-42 Stiletto” which appeared in the April 1998 edition of KnifeWorld, that “The U.S. Special Forces (Green Berets) use the V-42 in their Distinctive Insignia, their Unit Crest and in their shoulder patch.” The Case V-42 is a coveted and classic U.S. fighting knife.
This early issued Prototype scabbard is ID’d on the back to ‘Sgt. Stan Bradford‘.

Pre-WW1 Imperial German Baden Damascus Officer Sword -Ewald Cleff -Damast—ID’d

Pre-WW1 Imperial German Baden Damascus Officer Sword -Ewald Cleff -Damast—ID’d
$0
Layaway available with money down.
1 German Imperial Baden infantry officer sword. The maker is marked on the blade: “Ewald Cleff Solingen”.
Dimensions: The total length is 37 inches (94.0 cm), the length of the blade is 31.5 inches (80.0 cm), the width of the blade at the heel is .9 inches (2.4 cm). The blade is fine damascus. The blade on both sides is decorated with etching, carving and engraving with gilding. The base of the blade’s decor is a stylized leaf-and-vegetable ornament with the addition of military armature (crossed sabers, mines, pipes, drums, torches). On the right side of the blade in a stylized ribbon, a gilded inscription is cut with a gothic font “Dem scheidenden kameraden” Major Shulz “and an image of the Baden coat of arms.
On the left side of the blade the craftsman and the place of manufacture are stamped “EWALD CLEFF. SOLINGEN”. The blade on the blade as well as on the right side of the blade in a stylized ribbon is cut out with a gilded inscription in gothic type” Das offizier = korps Des 6. Badishen infanterie = regiments Kiser Frifrich III No. 114 1880-1890″.
As mentioned, blade was made by Ewald Cleff in Solingen. This Ewald Cleff company was founded in 1862. In some periods it produced cold steel for the Prussian and Bavarian armies. The blade has a rich decorative finish and is forged from Damascus steel. This fact is confirmed by the inscription on the blade “Aecht Damast // Eisenhauer”, which translates as “The real damast of fine quality”. The word “Eisenhauer” literally means “chopping iron” and it was written when they wanted to confirm the quality of the blade steel.
The full inscription on this fine sword reads “The retiring Major Shulzu is from the Officer Corps of the 6 Baden Infantry Regiment” Kaiser Frederick III No. 114, 1880-1890 “.
The handle is Silver-gilted with an R-shaped guard “bluesherovskogo” type. The top is made in the form of a sculpted head of a lion whose eyes are made of red faceted glass. The back of the hilt is decorated with a relief floral ornament. The grip is covered with a polished shark skin and is equipped with a twisted wire of light metal in three rows. The bottom of the handle is a brass Silvered frame with a relief floral ornament. The scabbard has a handsome darkened, almost blued finish.

Antique-WW2-Japanese-Sword-WW-II-Navy-Samurai-Naval-MASAHIRO-Takayama-Forge

Antique-WW2-Japanese-Sword-WW-II-Navy-Samurai-Naval-MASAHIRO-Takayama-Forge
$0
1 desirable Japanese World War II Takayama Forge Navy Officer’s Samurai sword available. This highly sought after katana was made by Hattori Masahiro. This Japanese sword would make an important addition to any collection.
Swords made at the Takayama Forge are highly collectible. In addition, Masahiro made swords in a distinctive ‘old way’. He made swords with a kissaki that was almost 3 times thicker than a normal katana’s kissaki. During World War 2, only Masahiro, and perhaps Masanao (at the Takayama Forge) made swords with this type of kissaki. This type of sword tip was made to reduce the likelihood of a break or chip at the blade tip. A sword made by Masahiro is of exceptional rarity.
There are an unusually high number of kanji on the nakago. The nakago/tangi is signed ‘Kin Saku Takayama to Hattori Masahiro’. The lower left side of the nakago is signed with the polisher’s name. The oil-tempered ‘no rust steel’ blade measures 25 5/16″ (64.3 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. The nakago has an especially large Naval anchor stamp. An additional distinguishing feature of a Masahiro blade is the distinctive ratio of nakago length to overall sword length.
The tsuka has black leather under the silk wrap. The saya is made of premium sharkskin. The gold gilt on all sword fittings is still 90%+. A fine sarute is present.
This sword has a highly collectible Navy Officer’s Sword Belt with it.
