Description
1 excellent antique Japanese Samurai sword available. This sword was attributed by the NBTHK as having been made by a Shimohara (Shitahara) school swordsmith.
This healthy wakizashi has a bohi (blade groove) running partially up both sides of the blade. The nakago is unsigned–thus the attribution. The blade nagasa is 16 inches (40.6 cm).
The jihada is pleasant to look at on this sword.
A humorous piece of history on this sword–a fanciful sayagaki was applied to the shirasaya long ago by a dealer attempting to deceive a buyer several hundred years ago. This dealer attempted to attribute this sword to Kinju (Kaneshige), one of Masamune’s 10 students.
This wakizashi was judged Hozon by the NBTHK to the Shimohara (Shitahara) school.
CONDITION:
Healthy hamon and boshi. In fine old Japanese polish with a few minor spots of light oxidation. Would polish again beautifully.
