1 difficult to find Japanese model 1883 Naval Kyu-Gunto Samurai Officer's sword. This rare Imperial Japanese Navy Officer's katana would make an important addition to any collection.
The tsuka/handle is missing from this sword. The blade is signed--the sword was made by Naohiro. Naohiro is featured in John Slough's book, pg. 126. The oshigata sword example in Slough's was made in 1915. Naohiro did not date the sword in this sword listing offering.
The sharkskin naval kyu-gunto saya is in perfect condition. Ideas for this sword are to locate a Russo-Japanese naval kyu-gunto handle for it. Some collectors may even choose to use the beautiful sharkskin saya to complete another naval kyu-gunto they own with a poor or missing kyu-gunto saya.
The blade by Naohiro will polish. Presently the blade has staining, finish scratches, pitting near the blade tip, and tiny edge nicks. The sharkskin naval saya is in perfect condition.
