1 extremely rare second model (1890) Japanese World War 2 Naval Admiral’s dress sword. This sword would make an incredibly rare addition to any collection.
Note–some of the photos show the sword without the knot attached–the collector I bought this sword from had separated
the knot from the sword. I didn’t realize this was this sword’s knot until I consulted my reference books–after having already begun photographing. This sword has a 5-7-5 kiri emblem on the backstrap, and on all three gold-gilt saya fittings. The saya is perfect polished sharkskin over wood with gold-plated fittings. This sword has a nickel-plated blade.
Note the original wire knot attached to this sword. This knot is a premium addition to this rare sword offering.
Photos are provided above, and at the bottom of this listing from various reference sources unquestionably confirming this sword as a flag rank/Admiral’s sword. Photos are provided of pages 262-264 of Jim Dawson’s book Swords of Imperial Japan 1868-1945 Cyclopedia Edition. Also provided are photos from pages 58 & 59 of Fuller & Gregory’s book Military Swords of Japan 1868-1945. 1 antique 16th Century Japanese Samurai katana sword. This Japanese Samurai sword would make an important addition to any collection. This sword was carried by true Samurai.
This sword is papered. This sword is mumei, and is attributed to Kanemoto school. There are 3 holes in the tang/nakago–of which one is filled.
This katana is in Samurai mounts. The openwork tsuba is quite old. Note the large kozuka ana/opening–made for an okozuka. Okozuka are the very early, extra large sized kozuka (kogatana handles). Since the tsuba has an okozuka ana, this tsuba is likely original to the sword (many katana were refitted over the centuries with different tsuba).
The fuchi/kashira are matching. The tsuka is unique–it is made of leather, and was likely done sometime early in the late 19th or early 20th century–perhaps as late as WW2. Interestingly, one side of the tsuka is carved ‘Kanemoto’.
The blade has two bohi grooves on either side of the blade. The blade’s temper line/hamon is sanbonsugi (three cedars).
