Description
A Thailand Siam diplomatic sword. This rare sword would make a hard to find addition to any collection.
This sword is from circa 1873-1910. This European style dress sword was commissioned by the Thai Royal Court for diplomats, ministers, high-ranking military officers, and court officials to wear with Westernized formal uniforms during state events.
The clamshell guard features the National Coat of Arms of Siam. It depicts the three-headed elephant (Erawan) representing northern/central, southern regions; a single while elephant for Laos; and crossed kris knives for the Malay Peninsula, topped by the Great Crown of Victory.
These swords were commissioned by the Siamese/Thai government to be made by Solingen or French makers. Remnants of a maker mark appears to be etched on the reverse ricasso.
CONDITION:
Thailand Siam diplomatic sword is in excellent condition. Most all of the original gold gilt remains on the mounts. The wire grip is perfect with no breaks. The blade has darkening and pitting.
A very hard to find sword.
