Description
Fine Solid SILVER Japanese Miniature Gunto Sword available. This desirable miniature is engraved to James B. Worrell, Major, T.C. (Temporary Commander). It was purchased at the Fujiya Hotel, Miyanoshita, Japan during the U.S. Occupation of Japan after Japan’s defeat in World War 2.
The Fujiya Hotel was requisitioned by the U.S. occupation authorities on 20 October 1945.
It remained under U.S. Army control until 6 July 1954, serving as a recreation and rest facility for occupation personnel.
This miniature is stamped ‘SILVER’ on one side of the habaki, and ‘ALOHA’ on the other side. This miniature was made just like an Army shin-gunto sword. Note the cherry blossoms on the fittings.
By looking through the photos, you will notice this Silver miniature sword disassembles just like a Japanese sword. Push out the mekugi, and slide the tsuka, seppa and tsuba off the expertly finished nakago. Measures 8 13/16″ (22.4 cm) in total length when in its saya. The blade nagasa is 4 1/8″ (10.5 cm).
The Silver itself weighs 97 grams.
