Description
This UNISSUED Camillus WWII knife represents a scarce and highly desirable example of early-war production. Specifically, it is the U.S. WWII blade-marked U.S.N. screw-top Camillus Mark 2 fighting knife, and because of its rarity and condition, it would make an important addition to any serious military collection.
The knife measures 12″ overall, and the blade measures 7″.
Most notably, this WWII-era Camillus U.S.N. Mark 2 features the rare threaded “nut pommel,” commonly referred to as the “screw pommel.” Camillus manufactured this configuration only for a short period in the early 1940s. Shortly thereafter, the company replaced it with a more durable pinned pommel design.
WWII Camillus Mark 2 “Screw Pommel”
Collectors strongly pursue the Camillus U.S.N. Mk II Screw Pommel because it represents one of the earliest wartime variations.
Design History: Early in WWII, Camillus introduced this version and secured the pommel to the tang with a threaded lug nut. As a result, the knife displays a distinctive round pommel with visible threading at the end.
Rarity and Value: Compared to the later pinned-pommel versions, the screw-pommel knives appear far less frequently. Camillus produced them in limited quantities, and today most examples reside in established private collections rather than circulating on the open market.
Identification: To properly identify this variation, look for “CAMILLUS, N.Y.” stamped on one side of the ricasso and “U.S.N.” on the other. In addition, confirm the presence of the threaded nut at the pommel.
CONDITION:
Overall, this unissued Camillus WWII fighting knife remains in mint condition and presents exceptionally well.
