Description
A Camillus USMC WWII knife in this condition rarely comes along. U.S. Marine Corps Mark 2’s are VERY hard to find as compared to the plentiful USN Mark 2’s.
Because of its rarity and condition, this knife would make an important addition to any serious collection.
This guard-marked knife measures 12″ overall. The blade itself measures 7″. Many collectors refer to Mark 2’s as Kabars despite there having been a number of makers.
Historical Use
During World War II, servicemen carried Mark 2 fighting knives extensively in the Pacific Theater. As a result, authentic examples with untouched features have become increasingly scarce.
WWII Production & Identification
WWII Production:
Camillus produced these knives under U.S. government contract, primarily between 1943 and 1944.
Markings:
The guard bears the “CAMILLUS, NY” stamp on one side and “U.S.M.C.” on the other.
CONDITION:
This Camillus USMC WWII knife remains in truly unbelievable condition—without question, one of the finest examples you will ever encounter. The blade retains 100% of its original blade finish, and its original factory edge.
Additionally, the pommel is textbook.
Ultimately, the only reason the longtime collector released this knife from his collection was the broken keeper strap.
