Description

A very rare (the only one we have ever seen) Australian WWII Ranger ‘cogwheel’ V44 knife.  This rare knife would make an important addition to any collection.

This handsome knife is in extraordinary condition.  What a beauty!

The back of the scabbard is stamped ‘SYDNEY – DEC. 1943‘.  It is also marked H.B. with the Commonwealth broad arrow stamped in two places.  In addition, the belt loop is stamped *C*.

This heavy knife measures 13 5/8″ overall.  The blade itself measures 9″.

 

The Australian WWII Ranger cogwheel knife in this listing varies from the typical in the following ways:

–the handle is cast iron, and is pinned (the knives made for U.S. troops had brass handles)

–the sheath is marked with British Commonwealth marks, this knife was issued to Australian troops

 

  • Manufactured in Australia between 1943–1945
  • The defining feature is the knuckle guard, which is cast with teeth or “cogs”
  • Typically, they feature a Bowie-style clip-point blade and a cast grip
