1 antique World War II Japanese Army Samurai Officer's gendai shin-gunto sword. This sword was made by Katsunaga. This fine World War II Japanese Army Officer's katana would make an important addition to any collection.
This sword is signed, 'Katsunaga'. This sword has a desirable complex temper line. Collectors will acknowledge that this isn't just any ordinary gendai sword hamon/temper line.
The saya has a combat cover showing this katana was carried in the field during World War II. The handle is shagreen/sharkskin under the wrap. Note that the drag fitting is Samurai, and is from a very old Samurai sword.
The blade measures 26" (66 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine.
This WW2 sword has four very small nail catcher-type nicks. The blade is perfectly straight. There are occasional small areas of minor carbon finish staining on the blade. There is one small spot pitting on the blade, and some minor pitting on the kissaki/tip. The fittings are in good condition. The stitching on the saya's leather combat cover is coming up on much of its length on one side, but the combat cover remains intact.
The complex hamon/temper line, and boshi are perfectly healthy.
This fine World War II Japanese Army Officer's sword, by the gendai swordsmith Katsunaga with its complex hamon/temper line, would make a rare addition to any collection.
