1 very fine antique World War II Japanese samurai Army Colonel Officer's sword available. The blade is a fine sword by Tadaaki. Tadaaki placed in the highest level in the Cutting Test category at the 1941 Sword Exhibition. This very fine Japanese Army Colonel's katana would make an important addition to any collection.
The mounts are early--from approx. 1934 to 1939. The nakago/tang is signed with two characters, Tadaaki. The kashira has a fine gold-gilt sarute, and a near-mint Colonel's (field grade) tassel. The blade measures 25 1/16"/63.7 cm (as measured properly with a tape pulled tight from the blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the habaki). All fittings have matching assembly numbers '22'. This fine sword has a pierced tsuba.
This sword has a wavy hamon/temper line with an interesting distinquishing feature of an ashi on both sides of the blade 3 1/8" back from the blade tip. Perhaps this is a trademark feature of Tadaaki's blades.
This antique Japanese World War II Army Colonel Officer's sword is in beautiful condition. The sword is in World War II polish. There is just one area of tiny pitting on one edge of the mune/spine--the spots are only the size of pinheads, and are easily missed. The blade is perfectly straight. There are absolutely no blade nicks. The fine mounts are in rare condition. This sword is absolutely guaranteed against any fatal flaws like hagire, etc. The field grade/Colonel's tassel is in near-mint condition.
The hamon is perfectly healthy. The boshi is perfectly healthy as well.
This Japanese samurai World War 2 Army Colonel Officer's katana, by the fine 1941 Exhibition Cutting Test Category swordsmith Tadaaki, would make a rare addition to any collection.
