1 vintage U.S. World War 2 Case V-42 stiletto.  A First Special Service Force V42 would make a centerpiece knife in any collection.

This Case V-42 is in an Everitt sheath--the shorter keeper strap shows that this sheath was originally made for an Everitt with the ground-off knuckles.  This knife has been in this sheath since during the War--this is proven by the aluminum marks on the sheath throat, and by the bend at the sheath throat from the guard.

The blade on this knife measures 7 1/4"--its full original length.  This knife has a lot of its original bluing on the blade--around 50%.

This knife was used by the First Special Service Force.  Frank Trzaska notes in his article "The Case V-42 Stiletto" which appeared in the April 1998 edition of KnifeWorld, that "The U.S. Special Forces (Green Berets) use the V-42 in their Distinctive Insignia, their Unit Crest and in their shoulder patch."  The Case V-42 is a coveted and classic U.S. fighting knife.

The blade still has about 50% of its bluing.  There are no nicks in the blade edges, and the blade is its full original length, and was never tipped.  There is only the expected very occasional carbon patina on the blade.

The skull crusher pommel has a nice patina with no oxidation.  The guard does wiggle some from the inevitable drying of the leather handle.  The leather handle is in nice condition.

The scabbard is in the same condition as the knife--both are in excellent condition.  The leather is soft with no mentionable crazing/cracking.  The bottom grommet on the back of the sheath is missing--that back grommet is almost never still on an Everitt sheath.  I have only seen one grommet still intact on an Everitt.

A U.S. World War 2 Case V-42 stiletto in this condition would make a rare and important addition to any collection.
