1 antique ~17th Century Japanese Samurai sword. This is a large Samurai katana--with a long 29 1/4" (74.3 cm) blade. This Japanese Samurai sword would make an important addition to any collection.
This fine sword has a complex hamon/temper line with lots of activity. This sword is unsigned. There are 2 holes it the tang/nakago.
This katana is in original Samurai mounts. The tsuba is large--measuring 3 1/2" in diameter. This tembo tsuba is stamped. A manta ray is inlaid in the tsuba. Note the large kozuka ana--made for an okozuka. Okozuka are the very early, extra large sized kozuka (kogatana handles). Since the tsuba has an okozuka ana, this sword could possibly date to earlier than the 17th century.
There is no kashira on the tsuka/handle. Note that the fuchi is of above average quality. This same is the large nodule/emperor type. The menuki appear to be of shakudo. This large katana was carried by Samurai.
This fine sword has exceptional activity in its temper line. There are 4 weld openings in the blade. As mentioned in the description above, there is no kashira. The saya is very nice, and provides a perfect fit to the katana. The hamon activity, exceptional blade length, and tsuba quality make this a fine sword.
This big Samurai katana would make an important addition to any collection.
