The handle has a wire-wrapped genuine same/rayskin grip.

This WW2 Japanese Naval Officer's dirk is in excellent condition. The wire handle wrap is perfect. The handle same/rayskin is rubbed in one spot on one side of the handle. There is one tiny spot of pitting on one side of the blade about 1" back from the tip. The saya has two small areas where the sharkskin is chipped. All fittings are nice and tight. The locking mechanism functions perfectly.
