1 exceptional antique Japanese Samurai tanto sword available. This desirable Japanese antique would make an important addition to any collection.
This tanto has undeniably exceptional mounts. The saya/scabbard is made up completely of Silver. The ribbed portion of the saya is made of interlocking bands of solid Silver--each perfectly made. The 3 1/2" throat fitting is solid Silver. The kurikata is solid Silver.
The tang/nakago on this tanto is signed Kagefuyu. The tsuba is also signed--Nobuiye.
The blade measures 9 3/4" (24.8 cm) from blade tip to the habaki.
The matching fuchi/kashira are exceptional. The uniformity of the hand-formed nanako is extraordinary. Those that have an appreciation for all of the Japanese arts will note that the handle wrapping is quite special as well. It appears as though the wrapping is patterned silk adhered to leather. This sword has a gold gilt habaki.
The cutting edge at the last 1 1/2 inches at the tip has dents but no chips. The mounts are quite nearly perfect. Only the silk wrapping has wear.
I recommend taking the koshirae to Shinsa--the koshirae are of exceptional quality and rarity, and should paper highly. The tanto blade itself should also be taken to Shinsa.
This extraordinary Japanese Samurai tanto would make an important addition to any collection.
