1 desirable early custom Japanese Navy Officer's dirk available. The Japanese dirk would make an important addition to any collection.
This dirk was carried from the Russo-Japanese War through World War 2. See the custom features on this dirk--the custom kashira (pommel fitting) and saya/scabbard drag fitting. Another custom Naval dirk is shown on pages 28 & 29 of Ken Banks' book Japanese Pattern Dirks, The Banks Collection.
This dirk measures 13" overall. The blade itself measures 8 1/4".
As can be seen in the photos, the sharkskin has deteriorated. With a little vision for this dirk--the fittings from this dirk can be added to the sharkskin saya from a different--even later, dirk. The wire handle wrap is perfect. The blade has some oxidation. The locking mechanism functions perfectly.
