Description
1 antique 1700-1800’s A.D. saya (scabbard) for a Japanese Samurai wakizashi sword. This fine sword saya would make an important addition to any collection–and would complete a fine Japanese sword that has no saya.
This saya is very fine. The lacquer has embedded pine needles with abalone shell. This nihonto scabbard has a number of fine fittings.
The saya will fit a blade that measures 20 1/4″ (51.5 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine.
This saya was used by true Samurai.
CONDITION:
This will be a beautiful saya for a fine Japanese wakizashi. Both missing fittings are commonly made of buffalo horn anyway–so this saya can be nicely restored. One shitodome fitting (two pieces line the kurigata) is missing–however genuine antique fittings are easily found to replace the missing fitting. The saya lacquer just three small chips.
