1 exceedingly rare early Mantetsu/Manchurian Railroad World War II Japanese Samurai Army Officer’s sword. This fine earliest variation Manchuria Railway symbol-marked katana would make an important addition to any collection.
The nakago/tang is marked with the Manchurian Railway symbol. The reverse side is dated Spring, 1939.
All military fittings are of excellent quality. The blade measures 26 5/16″ (66.8 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. The metal saya has a fine lacquered finish. This sword has a thick pierced tsuba.
This sword has a straight temper line.
The nakago’s mune/spine is stamped ‘N574“. The bottom edge of the habaki is stamped with the same matching number ‘N574‘.
CONDITION:
This vintage Japanese WW2 Mantetsu/Machurai Railway symbol marked Samurai Army Officer’s katana is in good condition. There are some small nicks in the blade edge. There are occasional spots of minor pitting on the blade. The hamon and boshi are perfectly healthy. This sword is guaranteed against fatal flaws. This sword will polish beautifully. The blade is perfectly straight. The saya finish is quite perfect. The locking mechanism works perfectly.
