Description
1 fine antique 17th Century Japanese Samurai katana available. This exceptional sword would make an important addition to any collection.
The matching shakudo fuchi/kashira have a dragon motif. The peony, chrysanthemum, and insect motif tsuba is also made of shakudo. The shakudo and gold menuki have a bird and floral motif.
The saya fittings are shakudo as well. The saya has a difficult to execute (and therefore expensive) striped pattern.
The unsigned nakago has three mekugi-ana, so this sword was mounted at least three different times.
The blade nagasa measures 26 5/16″ (66.8 cm). The hamon is suguha with irregular dips in the hamon towards the ha (cutting edge). The blade has two bonji horimono.
An exceptional 17th Century Samurai katana with premium shakudo fittings, and bonji horimono.
CONDITION:
This sword is in excellent original Japanese polish. The hamon and boshi are perfectly healthy. There are absolutely zero ware openings or other flaws. The koshirae is in excellent condition. The saya lacquer has some chips, mostly along the seams.
