Description

1 Japanese Meiji era ken sword available.  This antique Japanese ken would make a fine addition to any collection.

A ken sword is a double-edged Japanese sword.  This ken has an 8 15/16″ (22.8 cm) nagasa (cutting edge).  The blade has horimono of floral scenes, as well as songbirds on branches.

The Meiji era koshirae is decorated with various scenes as well.  One looks to be a Japanese firebird, or phoenix.  According to an online source, ‘Japanese firebird–the mythical bird Hō-ō (鳳凰) (hō-ō), the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese phoenix and a symbol of good fortune, or to the mythical creature Basan, a turkey-sized bird that breathes cold, visible “ghost fire” but ignites nothing.’
