1 antique World War II Japanese samurai Naval Landing Forces Officer's sword available.
The tang has the Naval anchor stamp. The tang is also stamped with the assembly number '574'. All fittings are stamped with this same matching assembly number.
All military fittings are of good quality. The blade measures 25 3/4" from blade tip to notch in the blade spine (as measured properly with the tape pulled tight between the blade tip and the top of the habaki). The hamon is polished on.
This vintage Japanese WW2 Naval Landing Forces Officer's katana is in average condition. The blade edge has nail catcher nicks including one at the blade tip. Rust was removed from the blade with coarse stones leaving surface scratches, and obscuring some of the hamon/temper line. The blade is perfectly straight. The tsuka/handle wrap is excellent. The sharkskin under the tsuka wrap is largely missing. The sword fittings have some surface corrosion. The black leather Landing Forces covering on the saya/scabbard is in good condition with some occasional scuffs and an occasional slice. There is a piece of electrical tape at the saya throat--must have been to keep the wood throat stable. A person will likely want to replace that with a proper thin metal throat ring (these fittings are quite simple, and an authentic one would probably cost a person $3-5).
This Japanese WW2 Naval Landing Forces Officer's sword would make a fine addition to any collection.
