The tang is signed with the swordsmith's name, Katsumasa. Katsumasa is featured on page 80 of Slough's book.
The reverse side of the nakago/tang has a hot stamp/kokuin. This is a hard-to-find feature. This stamp can be seen on page 98 of Slough's book.
All military fittings are of excellent quality. This sword has a fine wavy temper line. The blade measures 26 5/16" (66.8 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This sword has a wood saya with leather combat cover.
The same/rayskin on the tsuka is of the finer large nodule/emperor same type.
This vintage Japanese WW2 samurai army officer's katana is in excellent condition. There are no mentionable nicks in the blade edge. There is an occasional spot of pitting on the blade. The blade is perfectly straight. The tsuka wrap is in excellent condition. The leather combat cover is in good condition. One of the snaps is missing from the cover.
The hamon/temper line and boshi are perfectly healthy. This sword is guaranteed against fatal flaws.
