World War 2 vet bringback grouping from the Burma theater. This grouping was brought back by Captain W. L. James, British Royal Engineers from Burma.
This grouping includes a Mantetsu signed Japanese Army Officer sword, Captain James' Chindit slouch hat, GTSP pocket watch, his Royal Engineers pocket book, a whip, a portrait of Captain James, and various Wartime pamphlets. What an awesome vet bringback!
This group was surrendered to Captain James in 1945.
The sword is signed 'KOA ISSHIN MANTETSU'. The sword is dated, and has the usual numbering system on the mune. The blade's cutting edge (nagasa) measures 26 1/4".
Captain James' chindit slouch hat is in exceptional condition. The desirable Mantetsu signed Officer katana has not a single nick in its cutting edge. The blade has light surface finish changes from just the beginnings of past light oxidation. The temper line and boshi are in perfectly healthy condition. The saya has occasional dents from time carried in combat. The locking mechanism functions perfectly. All other items are in excellent condition as well.
