The nakago/tang is unsigned. There are no arsenal stamps on the tang. The reverse side of the nakago has painted-on assembly numbers.
All military fittings are of excellent quality. The seppa, tsuba, etc. all have matching assembly numbers--the number '15'. The tsuka has a fine cherry blossom sarute/tassel loop. Note there are 6 seppa on this sword--including the finer thick, ribbed middle seppa. The blade measures 26 1/8" (66.4 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This fine sword has an early lightweight aluminum saya/scabbard.
The hamon/temper line is straight.
This WW2 Japanese Army Officer's katana has a company grade blue/brown tassel.
This vintage Japanese WW2 Samurai Army Officer's katana is in fine condition. There are no nicks at all in the blade edge. There is only a very occasional tiny carbon finish stain on the blade. There is no rust or pitting. There is an occasional scratch. The blade is straight. The tsuka wrap is in perfect condition. There is lacquer wear on the saya from the War. The Officer tassel was cut so the soldier knotted it back together.
