This WW2 Japanese NCO sword has its leather tassel.
The sword and scabbard serial #'s match. The sword's serial # is 149079, and the scabbard's serial # is 149079. The blade measures 26 7/16" from tip to top of the habaki (habaki edge that touches the blade). Note the arsenal stamps on the fuchi (fitting just below the tsuba/guard).
An additional feature of this sword is the hand-stitched wool wrap at the saya throat. This is where the NCO would grip the saya to keep it from swinging when moving quickly. In colder conditions, this would prevent the NCO's hand from having to grip the cold metal of the saya.
This vintage World War II Japanese NCO sword is in exceptional condition. The blade has no pitting whatsoever. The blade is perfectly straight. There are no nicks in the blade edge. There is an occasional micro-finish scratch on the blade. The handle paint is in 90%+ condition--which is very rare. All of the fittings are nice and tight on this sword. The leather tassel is in excellent condition. The scabbard has 85% of its original green paint.
