1 very rare Japanese Meiji period through World War 2 Army Officer's Court-style Dress Sword. This is the type 19 Army dress sword--this design was authorized in 1886 A.D., and continued to be made until 1938. This hard-to-find Japanese WW2 Army Court-style dress sword would make an important addition to any collection
The type 19 sword has a dragonfly on each side of the pommel. The guard has the sun rays design with the "V" shaped ends. This sword measures 27 3/8" overall when outside of its saya/scabbard.
This is a rare and difficult to find Japanese sword.
The blade has oxidation as can be seen in the photos. The fold-down guard moves perfectly. One of the three handle wires is a bit loose. Now that I sit down to list the sword, I see that I should have repositioned the loose wire. That wire can be slid over to its proper position all the way down the grip--it looks great and correct now. The leather on the saya/scabbard is dry and has crazing. The leather is in poor condition right next to the brass saya drag fitting. The saya is going to have to be handled carefully so that the leather doesn't separate.
This offering represents the rare opportunity to procure a hard-to-find Japanese WW2 Army Court-Style Officer's Dress Sword for your Japanese sword or world Militaria collection.
