1 vintage U.S. World War II Baxter fighting knife. This hard-to-find knife would make a rare addition to any U.S. or world militaria collection.
This fine combat knife is stamped on the blade 'FIRST QUALITY'. This knife has a brass guard and pommel. This knife measures 10 3/8" overall. The blade itself measures 6".
As noted in Bill Walters' book 'U.S. and Allied Military Knives--World War 2, Book II', the Baxter fighting knife has various markings--including 'Sidney R. Baxter & Co. Boston, U.S.A.' and 'J & D Miller N.Y. Guaranteed'. These knives were made by the same maker--each company looks to have purchased the knives to resell with their own name on them. Or Baxter made them, and sold some knives to J & D Miller. The knife in this listing is a J & D Miller knife.
This knife is in excellent condition. The sheath's stitching was repaired at some point in its history with copper wire.
