1 rare vintage U.S. World War 2 Stelzig knuckle knife. This World War combat knife would make a rare addition to any collection.
This style of Stelzig knuckle knife can be seen in Mike Silvey's book U.S. Military Knives - World War 2. This LARGE Stelzig knife measures 14 7/16" overall. The blade itself measures 8 5/8".
Note the weighted skull crusher pommel on this Stelzig's WWI Mark 1 trench knife style handle. The scabbard is stamped on its belt loop 'STELZIG SADDLERY CO. HOUSTON, TEXAS'. The sheath is also ID'd on the front--portions of the vet's serial # can still be seen.
The type of metal used on these Stelzig knuckle knives tends to oxidize and 'craze' and crack over 75 years since the War. This crazing is present on the knuckle guard on this knife. Despite this crazing this knife is still solid, and displays nicely. A handsome and rare addition to any WW2 knuckle knife collection.
