1 U.S. Vietnam War MACV-SOG Iron Guard Recon fighting knife. This desirable knife would make an important addition to any U.S. or world militaria collection.
See page 16 of Mike Silvey's book Knives of the United States Military in Vietnam for some information on this SOG model. The blued blade measures 6 1/4". This knife measures 10 13/16" overall. This knife has a type #3 sheath. The missing sharpening stone was replaced with a plain grey stone.
This U.S. Vietnam MACV-SOG Iron Guard Recon fighting knife is in excellent condition. The blade has 70% of its original bluing. The blade edges are perfect with no nicks. The handle is in excellent condition. The guard will budge just the tiniest bit. It is so slight that it isn't noticed--unless a person specifically grasps onto the guard to check. Of course, since this knife has a pommel nut, it can be tightened. The original leather sheath is in excellent condition--all stitches, the keeper strap, and snaps are in perfect condition. The left throat rivet is missing its cap--the rest of the rivet is intact.
