1 antique Russo-Japanese/World War II Imperial Japanese Army Samurai Officer's kyu-gunto sword available.  The blade of this sword is from the 17th/18th century.  The blade would have been carried by true samurai.  This very fine Japanese Samurai sword would make an important addition to any collection.

This sword has an 8-character signature. 

This fine sword has a complex hamon/temper line with lots of activity.  The hada/grain is complex as well.  This sword was traditionally-made during the time of the Samurai. 

The blade measures 26 7/8" (68.3 cm) from blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the habaki.  The tsuka backstrap has a silver Samurai family mon.  The same/rayskin is of the desirable large nodule type. 

This fine sword has two nicks.  Even the larger of the two is only 1/3 of the way to the hamon edge--making this sword polishable.  The blade is perfectly straight.  There are areas of carbon patina/staining on the blade.  There is no significant pitting on the blade.  The couple of darker spots should be considered very minor.  This sword is an excellent candidate for a restoration polish.  Lots of photos have been provided for evaluation of this sword.  The more fine of the wires on the tsuka/handle have some damage.  The more complex woven wire is complete.  The silver foil habaki has two areas on each side that are creased.  The guard and tsuka are in excellent condition.  The same/rayskin is complete with no damage.  The saya has occasional oxidation and two dents.  The saya locking mechanism isn't working perfectly.  I haven't worked on it.  All parts are in good condition so it should just need a little tinkering to get it to lock properly. 

There are no openings in the blade whatsoever.  The hamon/temper line and boshi are perfectly healthy.  This sword is guaranteed against fatal flaws. 



This rare, signed Japanese Samurai Army Officer's sword, with desirable complex temper line, would make an important addition to any collection.
