1 vintage U.S. World War 1/World War II Mark 1 trench knuckle knife. This trench fighting knife was made in France for the U.S. Army, and is marked 'AU LION' on the tang. The lion image is stamped just above the Au Lion mark. This knife would make an important addition to any collection.
This knife measures 11 3/8" overall. The blade itself measures 6 9/16". 'U.S. 1918' is marked on the guard. Interestingly there is a small hole drilled in the guard--this was likely used to thread a leather thong through to tie the guard to the knife during downtime between battles. The scabbard is the correct French-made metal scabbard.
This original U.S. World War 1 / World War 2 Au Lion Mark 1 trench knife is in excellent condition. The blade has no pitting. The 'AU LION' stamp is light, but readable. The scabbard is perfect.
