1 antique old Japanese Samurai sword available. This likely Nanbokucho period ubu daito sword would make an important addition to any collection.
This Samurai daito sword (daito means long sword) likely dates to 1336-1392 A.D. Note the early sugata. This sword is ubu and unsigned.
The blade measures a long 30 1/16" (76.4 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. Two windows were opened in this sword by Bob Benson, since the hamon was obscured by age and oxidation. The windows reveal a hamon that is complex and exceptional.
The windows opened in the sword reveal that the hamon and boshi are perfectly healthy. The blade is straight. Due to this sword's age, there are 3 spots on the blade above and clear of the hamon with little chisel marks--these should be where weld openings were closed.
This old, ubu daito sword, with certainty, should be brought to shinsa.
