1 highly collectible Japanese Samurai tanto gendai sword available. This traditional water-tempered tanto sword would make an important addition to any collection.
The blade was made by the 2.8 Million Yen swordsmith Toshihide in 1918. Toshihide used three names: Hideaki, Kaneaki and Toshihide. One side of the nakago is signed Hideaki. The other side of the nakago is full of kanji. This side reads 'Taisho nana nen nigatsu Masako shyoji'. This translates to 'February 1918', and '(made for/owned by) Masako'.
The blade measures 8" (20.3 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This tanto has the distinct horizontal file line on the mune next to the munemachi--a key kantei point for Toshihide. See photo below.
This Japanese gendai tanto sword is in full polish. The hamon and boshi are perfectly healthy. This sword is guaranteed against fatal flaws.
This exceptional gendai tanto by the 2.8 Million Yen smith, Toshihide, would make an important addition to any collection.
