1 U.S. Vietnam War 5th Special Forces Group Presentation combat knife.  This knife is identified.  This SOG fighting knife would make an exceptional addition to any collection.

This knife was owned and carried by Special Forces Colonel John F. Sullivan.  There is a letter from Colonel Sullivan to Bill Adams, who purchased this knife from the Colonel.

The knife blade measures 6 1/4".  This knife measures 10 7/8" overall.  This iron guard SOG knife is engraved '5TH SPECIAL FORCES GROUP (Abn)   VIETNAM'.

Colonel Sullivan provided the original buyer of the knife with his Service resume.  In addition to serving in World War 2 and Korea, Colonel Sullivan '...Conducted analysis of  Pilot Scout Dog Program and developed U.S. Army Dog Training Program for use in Vietnam.  Represented U.S. Army Combat Developments Command and participated in classified assignments.

The knife and sheath have been vetted by using Mike Silvey's book SOG Knives and More from America's War in Southeast Asia.  The female side of the keeper strap snap has the exact stamps as the SOG knife on page 55--'...The snap on the presentation sheath is marked with Asian characters and two stars.'

The small snap on the stone pocket is marked '(star) HASI (star) HATO'.

There are 4 original photos of Colonel Sullivan from Vietnam in this grouping.  He also included photos of himself from the early 1980's while he was carrying this knife.

The knife and sheath are in excellent condition.  The sharpening stone is broken in half--the lower half of the sharpening stone is still in the sheath pocket.
